Viet Cong has launched a series of guerrilla-style attacks along the river south of Attapeu city. A task force of USMC with PTF Nasty-class boats has been ordered to clear out any Viet Cong formations along the river and secure the settlements of Kiem Tra and Nuoc Bun where there have been reported sightings of Viet Cong arms caches and other activity. During the last week, aerial surveillance with a Bird Dog recon aircraft spotted a potential Viet Cong stronghold upstream close to Attapeu, which needs to be neutralized to prevent any major attacks towards Attapeu.
