SITUATION:

Anizay region, Ardistan. 28th July 2018

Tomorrow will mark the 13th anniversary of the US-led invasion of Ardistan which toppled the Islamic fundamentalist group al-Wusata' who ruled since the ’80s. Their cooperation with the terrorist organisation al-Bayt and complicity in hiding al-Bayt’s leader Omar Abdullahi Ahmed was the final straw for NATO.

Since then, Ardistan has been ruled by various governments, the first were installed by the US and consisted of exiled scholars who were sympathetic to the west. A gradual shift in politics has resulted in a robust and independent government whose reliance on the US has dwindled. Two years ago the US conducted a raid in the neighbouring country of Takistan to eliminate Omar Abdullahi Ahmed, while this blow has essentially collapsed al-Bayt many in the region viewed the violation of Takistani sovereignty as an example of the United States’ heavy-handed approach.

Now, the NATO presence in Ardistan is greatly reduced from what it was at its peak. The NATO task force is slowly withdrawing and only one regiment of a Joint British-German Company is spread across a region of Ardistan where insurgent resistance still remains, their role now is to advise the Ardistan People’s Army (APA).

3rd Group, Joint British-German Company, operates out of FOB Obeh, and as of 0530, communications with the FOB were lost and shortly after large explosions were heard. As a result, all members from 1st Group were woken and have all been given a 20 minute WARNO to move towards FOB Obeh and re-secure the FOB, assisting any members of 3rd Group en route. Additionally, the sandstorm which has swept across the region is grounding all flights so no aerial coverage will be available.
